The Fall Photo Charter will feature two K-36 engines working a freight train over Cumbres Pass. It will take place on Sunday, October 26 and Monday, October 27, right after the season ends, and will be based out of Chama.

Commemorating 100 years of K-36’s steaming over Cumbres Pass, the charter will recreate a typical freight of the mid 1940’s. Featuring two K-36 locomotives working a 20 to 25 car train, the           consist will highlight some of the rolling stock restorations done by the Friends.

There will be a photo session in the Chama yard on the Saturday evening prior to the Sunday departure by the sand house and coaling tower.

The train will feature a K-36 locomotive pulling a typical freight train of the 1940’s period with a second K-36 locomotive pushing ahead of the caboose as far as Cumbres Pass where it will be detached. The train will then depart for Antonito, with photo runbys along the way. A bus will return riders to Chama for the night.

Monday morning will see an early bus departure for Antonito where, after coaling and watering, the train will depart for Chama with a mid-train K-36 helper. On arrival at Cumbres, the mid-train helper will be detached and the train will proceed down the hill to Chama.

There are just 16 tickets left, out of the possible 50 seats available. Seating is strictly limited to ensure ample space for riders.  Mark your calendars for what promises to be an epic railroading event!

Tickets for the charter will be $800 for Friends members and $850 for non-members.  Call the office for tickets on (505) 880-1311.
