Volunteer Opportunities
WORK SESSIONS
Who gets to help preserve and restore a vintage steam railroad operation? You do! No prior experience required! Our volunteers serve as carpenters, welders, cooks, painters, groundskeepers and so much more.
You’ll choose from several work sessions which are held at Chama, New Mexico and Antonito and Colorado Springs in Colorado. Many Friends Volunteers participate in more than one session and most and come back year after year!
DOCENT PROGRAM
As a Docent for the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, Inc., you will serve as host and storyteller, sharing the rich history of the railroad along with interesting facts about the area with the C&TSRR guests.
You’ll meet people from all over the world, enriching their experience at one of the C&TSRR stations or enroute as the train winds its way along 64 miles of scenic beauty.
HISTORICAL PRESERVATION, INTERPRETATION & COMMUNICATION
While volunteers are restoring and preserving C&TSRR rolling stock, buildings and property, other volunteers are working to organize, categorize and label historical photos and documents... tend to our library and museum... assemble and distribute our annual calendar... write and distribute the C&TS DISPATCH and much more.
Whether you work from our Albuquerque, NM library or from the comfort of your own home, you’ll find there are a variety of fascinating projects from which to choose!
Become a Friends Volunteer!
As a FRIENDS Volunteer, you’ll join an active group of ordinary people who do extraordinary things to ensure the preservation, interpretation and restoration of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad for today’s guests and future generations.
